I have a degree in Art History, I’m a Certified
Tour Guide of Rome and an Official Guide for the Vatican Museums.
I have a special hobby: Symbology.
My tour is not a simple description of the exterior aspects of the work of
arts (style, author, period); you can read these things
in a guide book. I explain the real purpose why a masterpiece was
made and the hidden meaning behind it, discovering the symbols within.
In fact in the past the artists couldn’t do what they wanted, they had
to follow the will of the buyer, who most of the time were kings, popes
and nobles, therefore celebrating them using special symbols within the
work of art. One example of symbology: in biblical stories the rainbow is
painted during miracolous events, because it represents the presence of God,
it’s the link between man and God, It has 7 colours like the 7 Sacraments, the
7 gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Why did Michelangelo when painting the Sistine Chapel,
paint the Prophet Jona above the altar as well as the biblical episodes in
a way never seen before? To have an unforgettable experience you need
to know the 'story behind the scenes'.
Remember, YOU ARE JUST ABLE TO SEE WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW. |
